High Voltage Test Facility
October 6, 2017 - Manitoba Hydro’s High Voltage Test Facility (HVTF) Technical Visit and Tour
Manitoba Hydro International Ltd. (MHI), in association with Manitoba Hydro's High Voltage Test Facility (HVTF), provides test services tailored to meet the specialized needs of electrical utilities, heavy industry, and academic research institutions.
The HVTF is fully equipped with state-of-the-art testing equipment capable of full electrical tests on apparatus rated up to and including 550 kVac and 500 kVdc, such as instrument transformers, bushings, aerial lift devices, and power transformers. RIV and corona measurements are made on transmission line hardware. Accelerated ageing tests are performed on the insulation of generator stator coils and bars.
The test hall, 41 m x 38 m with a 21 m clearance between floor and bridge crane, is equipped state-of-the-art test equipment. The engineered electromagnetic shielding of the HV test hall allows partial discharge measurements down to 2 pC. There is rail access into the test hall which can be divided into two test bays or more enabling different tests to take place simultaneously.
HV Test Service provides robust quality assurance test programs for a wide variety of high voltage electrical equipment and materials in accordance with IEC, IEEE, ANSI, and CSA Standards.
